In June 2024, the leading telehealth association, the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), announced that it had joined the Collaborative for Telehealth and Aging (C4TA) in an advisory capacity. Ann Mond Johnson, the CEO of the ATA, looked forward to aiding C4TA in its mission to increase access to and adoption of telehealth services among senior citizens, helping them to live “vital, engaged and independent” lives.
The C4TA operates under the direction of the West Health Institute, the Mid-Atlantic Telehealth Resource Center, and the University of Virginia. These three organizations established C4TA in 2021 with urgency due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the C4TA has guided telehealth development in various ways, releasing Principles and Guidelines to Advance Telehealth for Older Adults in 2022 and launching the Center of Excellence for Telehealth and Aging in 2023. Welcoming the ATA as a C4TA partner, West Health Institute chief medical officer Dr. Zia Agha acknowledged collaboration among diverse healthcare and technology professionals as a key driver of improved care delivery to American seniors.
